Soil testing for your customers, one sample at a time.

EarthOptics

Living Soil Lab is part of the EarthOptics family of soil insights companies, and uses the same lab system.

Order multiple samples or as few as one. You'll use a shovel to take a 6"-deep sample yourself, and mail it to our lab in a plastic bag. Shipping included in pricing; label provided.

The tests

Every test is one bag of soil from one area. Prices are per sample, and include shipping.

Starts with a per-sample version of TruNutrient, the EarthOptics nutrient-focused product, but adds soil texture, carbon and organic matter.

Full nutrient panel using Mehlich-3 process, plus pH, organic matter, nutrient holding capacity (CEC), and texture.

Soil Microbiome

The per-sample version of TruBio, the EarthOptics soil biology analysis product.

The living microbial community inside your soil, read with DNA sequencing — the microbes and fungi feeding the plants, the nutrient-cycling work they do, and the soil-borne pathogens and diseases working against them.

Those are a sample. The panel identifies 104 organisms in all — including 77 row-crop diseases across wheat, alfalfa, corn, cotton, sugarcane, soybean, potato and sugar beet. The report leads with the ones that matter for what’s being grown — corn and soybean carry their own keyed disease sets — and lists the rest as detected.

Your brand on the report

Your logo, your name, your customer's name at the top.

Your advisory voice

The report can mirror how you already advise your customers: the products you carry, the practices you stand behind, and the way you'd say it.

Unlimited follow-up advisory

Every report opens a discussion page. You or your customer can ask our soil scientists as many follow-up questions about the results as you want, for as long as you're working from them.

How to sample for accurate results (it’s easy!)

A sample is a blend from across one area, not one scoop from one spot.

Every sample

  • One sample area per bag. Don't combine two properties, two beds or two areas into one bag.
  • Walk a zig-zag across the area and take five to eight sub-samples.
  • Aim for six inches of depth at each spot. Take a thin slice top to bottom of each hole, not the surface.
  • Combine the slices in one zip-top bag. Aim for about two cups — roughly a pound.
  • Pick out rocks, wood chips, bark and twigs as you go. Small stones and fine bits can stay.
  • Squeeze the air out and seal the bag.
  • Mail the same day or the next day.

Don't sample

  • Within 30 days of fertilizer, compost or any amendment.
  • Within 90 days of lime or sulfur.
  • Within 24 hours of heavy watering or hard rain. Let it drain first.
  • Within six feet of a tree trunk, fence post or driveway.
  • On compost piles, pet areas, or bed edges where soil mixes with paths or gravel.
  • Into a root ball. Take the slices from open soil between plants.

Naming your samples

After checkout you name each sample, one row per sample. The name is what appears on the results and what tells us which ground they describe.

Put the customer and the area in the same name:

Ruiz — front lawn Ruiz — back beds Delgado — orchard block 2

Questions

Do you offer volume pricing?

Yes — volume discounts are available to partners. Email support@livingsoillab.bio and tell us roughly how many samples a season you expect.

Do I have to deliver the report you give me to my customer?

No. Use the information yourself, or pass the report on — your call. If you do want to give your customer a report, we're happy to work with you to customize it, incorporating your brand, your advisory style, and even your voice. And if you just want a raw data table output, we can give you that, as well.

Can one order cover several customers?

Yes. Name each sample and the results come back labeled that way.

Can I mix tests in one order?

Yes. Choose a quantity for each test. Each sample runs the test you chose for it.

How many samples fit in one order?

Up to 25. For a larger order, email support@livingsoillab.bio.

Where do the results go?

By email, to the address on the order. Soil Safety takes longer than the nutrient and DNA work, so an order with both gets those results separately.

Do I need a kit or any equipment?

No. A clean trowel, a zip-top bag per sample, a marker, tape, and any box or padded mailer. The prepaid label and the QR codes come from your confirmation page.

Can I send potting soil, or soil from pots and planters?

No. Please don't send potting soil, bagged container mix, or soil from free-standing pots and planters. Raised beds are fine, including ones filled with bought soil.

Can a customer sample their own ground?

Yes. Send them the sampling guide and the name you used at checkout, so the bag label matches the order.
